One For The Weekend: 'Passionate Ones' by We Are Legends feat. Artymove

Do you guys still remember Artymove, the Swedish indie pop band that I once briefly wrote about? I found out about them when they were opening up for the marvellous electropop group Dragonette last December and was instantly captivated by their material. Well, if you liked their music, good news: they've got a new song out! Kind of. Actually it's the latest tune by the Gothenburg-based electronic music duo We Are Legends but it does feature Artymove frontwoman Mathilda Lindgren in the vocals. It's a catchy house track with a strong '90s feel to it that instantly grew on me, so I was thinking it would make a lovely addition to your weekend playlist. You're welcome!

"Wait, happy what day?" Well let me explain you.

Every first Friday of November is here a day dedicated to Christmas spirit and more importantly - this being Denmark and all - the launch date of the Tuborg Christmas Brew (or Tuborg Julebryg) of the year. That is basically a Christmas beer that, even though it's available for only ten weeks each year, is actually the fourth best-selling beer in the country, only beaten by three other beers that are available all year round. Quite impressive, innit.

Anyway, the annual launch day marks a nationwide celebration where Carlsberg employees (Tuborg is a part of the Carlsberg company, in case you didn't know) going from bars and cafés to another, singing a traditional Tuborg Christmas Brew song (don't ask) and handing out free beers to the customers to mark the beginning of the festive season. Needless to say, people get massively drunk. I once heard another foreigner describe the way back to home after the night as a 'zombie walk', with people just incontrollably crawling in the gutters, brainless and in slow motion. With that in mind, and with Halloween just behind us, I couldn't think of a more fitting song for the weekend than "Living Dead" by Marina & the Diamonds. Unless, of course, you want to go with the Christmas Beer song. Or both! Anyway, happy J-Day for all ye living dead and have a wonderful weekend!

One For The Weekend: 'Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)' by Groove Armada ft. Mutya Buena

Once again, the weekend's here again, with one more week of hard work behind us. And you now what that means: time to take it easy. So go put on your dancing shoes and get loose! And in case you're looking for some new music to add to your Friday night playlist (and even if you're not), here's my contribution to your weekend: it's Groove Armada's excellent 2007 single "Song 4 Mutya" that, as the title might suggest, features the ex-Sugababe, now MKS-member Mutya Buena in the vocals. The result is a highly enjoyable 4-minute piece of electropop bliss. The whole album Soundboy Rock is a great pop record so expect a proper review some time in the future as well. Meanwhile, enjoy your weekend - you've deserved it!

One For The Weekend: 'Animale' by Don Diablo feat Dragonette

The weekend's here again. Too bad I've caught a cold so no partying for me... the chilly Danish weather got the best of me, it seems. So hear me guys, remember to look after yourselves. Oranges, for example, are an excellent way to take care of those vitamin C levels - just make sure they're not that kind of oranges as seen in the 'Animale' music video.





'Animale', the 2010 single of the Dutch DJ Don Diablo (try to say that after a couple of drinks) is a killer tune with infectious synth riff that makes you want to go bananas with citrus fruits and dance like you're living in a Skins episode. And hey, any music video that promotes fruit consumption is good, right?

Of course the clip actually refers to Requiem for a Dream, the heart-breaking and disturbing drug drama, and the oranges are obviously a metaphor for something less innocent they're getting high with. Which you probably noticed yourself. Anyway, the brilliant track also features Martina Sorbara of Dragonette (of whom I recently wrote about) in the vocals, so there's one more reason to love the tune. So go ahead, knock yourselves out to this song and have a great weekend!

Fun fact: after discovering this clip I started to get enormous cravings for oranges whenever hungover.

Another fun fact: people have told me I bear a striking resemblance to the protagonist of the video. After that I haven't been able to unsee it and now watching my unfortunate doppelgänger's fruit-fuelled adventures feels a bit weird, I'm telling you.

One For The Weekend: 'Royal T' by Crookers feat Róisín Murphy

Once again the weekend's here and people's dancing feet are getting restless. So go out, go have fun! And if you're looking for catchy beats and infectious dance tunes, well, boy are you in for a treat! Here's "Royal T", a great tune from the 2010 debut album of the Italian electronic duo Crookers. Not only is it super awesome but it also features vocals from none other than the wonderful Róisín Murphy so what's not to love!





And if you've run out of flashy new moves, you can always look up the group routine choreographed to this song in So You Think You Can Dance for inspiration. I can guarantee, with moves like that you will stand out from the crowd. For better of for worse.

One For The Weekend: 'White Noise' by Disclosure ft. AlunaGeorge

Yay, weekend's here again! For all the partygoers who will be getting into the groove later on, check out this lovely electro house track by Disclosure featuring AlunaGeorge.
